MacKinnon kicks his leg out and trips Larkin to create a 2 on 1, Wings PP

Raymond with a hard hit on Lindgren behind the Avs’ net, then two Avs go after him post-whistle with no one else around

MacKinnon gets a PP goal after
1. Soft slashing call on Seider
2. No call on MacKinnon for hooking Compher at center ice to slow him down on a near breakaway
3. Edvinsson blocks a shot and it goes straight to MacKinnon
Not the Wings’ night.

Aaand there’s a weird loft that gets by Seider and gives O’Connor an easy EN goal

Of course Stooter got the goal that I missed because Brady straight up tackled Raymond at center ice and nothing was called

Re: Thee Official 2024-25 Detroit Red Wings Thread: Erik Gustafsson says "You can't blame me anymore"
Welp, lose out it is.
Felt like each SNES goal was designed for maximum devastation:
1. Chabot got the first one on a 3 on 2 after the first Wings PP. Don't know if it was a bad change or what, but he was wide open in the slot. I think Lyon got a piece, but couldn't stop it. All of the air left the building with that goal.
2. The Wings had a 5 on 3 during which Ullmark made a couple of ridiculous saves. Raymond skates the puck to the neutral zone, Brady Tkachuk basically dive-tackles him from behind, and while Brady is still slamming Raymond's head into the ice, Stutzle scores behind the play. I didn't see the goal because I, and apparently all of the Wings, were watching Raymond get mauled at center ice.
3. Right after the carry-over portion of the Wings' fifth PP ended, Perron sneaks behind the D and gets a breakaway from the blueline in. Lyon can't stop it and gets pulled for Talbot, who is way better.
4. After a drab second period, the Wings finally get one on the board on their sixth PP. A couple of minutes later, I believe after Dominik Shine did a drop pass to no one at the offensive blueline leading to an unsuccessful SNES 2 on 0, there's a rush which gets stopped, then Amadio bumps into Talbot and pokes it into the goal. It's waved off on the ice, which I thought was the correct call from watching it live, but they reviewed it and called it a good goal, making it 4-1. Ah well, not like they were going to come bac--
They got hope with Kasper feeding the puck up to Raymond alone on Ullmark, who was able to get his second shot through. Then I saw a Tarasenko goal in person, proving that it did happen. The Wings had a bunch of chances in the final minute, including one that tipped off Ullmark and looked like it was floating into the goal, but instead glanced off the post. Not as devastating as the post-buzzer goal last time, but JFC.
Guys who looked good:
Albert Johansson only played 13 and change, but looked great with the puck in the offensive zone in the third and got some shots through. He got bodied on the rush a couple of times but he still looks like a competent third pairing guy at worst and a passable second-pair option.
Marco Kasper was the most physically engaged Wing. In the last two minutes with Talbot out, there was a long scrum after the faceoff, and he came out with it. Made a nice power move to the net earlier in the third.
Craig Smith seems like a competent fourth liner. A vast improvement over Christian Fischer, if still not a guy they need to keep moving forward.
Edvinsson had an underwhelming fight with Brady at the end of the first, which I'm glad someone took on, and was back with Seider for the third. His reach is incredible and he's smooth skating through neutral ice.
Guys who did not look good:
Seider had some struggles at times, but he also played 27 minutes (in part because of all the PPs).
Kane's goal was not as planned -- went in off his shinguard -- and shortly after that he had one of the worst shifts I've ever seen. Had better moments during the game but man he found new ways to turn it over.
Talbot made a few saves in the second and third that kept them in it.
At one point there was a slow dump from the other side of center, and normally a defenseman skating as slow as Justin Holl could be accused of dogging it, but no, that's his top speed.
Watson barely played, I'm not sure if he got hurt or just didn't do much.
Shine is an AHLer and they should've had Berggren in.

Re: Thee Official 2024-25 Detroit Red Wings Thread: Erik Gustafsson says "You can't blame me anymore"
The Tkachuk-on-Raymond thing 100% should have been a penalty but I assume the refs (being, sadly, refs) were making up for some extremely shall we say, gravitationally challenged moments, by the wings players on at least two of the previous three PP calls. Which is, of course, stupid and a constantly infuriating part of hockey reffing. Then they made up for not calling the Tkachuk thing leading to a goal by going back to calling chintzy shit.
I did think the fourth SNES goal looked bad in real time but the replay shows the puck continued in without the bump (which occurred after the puck was already squiggling in)
Anyway, I'm glad these two teams don't play anymore so I can just hope for red wings wins from here on out.

Of the first three penalties, I didn’t see the high stick on Larkin, but the first trip was legit and then the Grieg trip on Tarasenko should’ve been either matching or nothing. Agree that they didn’t call the more egregious Brady tackle / head slam because of those.
Really though, getting five fucking power plays in the first period and getting zero goals from them (and having two SNES goals come shortly after two of them ended) was the game. The Wings haven’t been getting many PP opportunities of late but have generally been doing well with them.
Ullmark was ridiculous again during the second PP / the 5 on 3.

This could be the last game the Wings win this year or the start of a miraculous run to the playoffs, who knows!
Hope Elmer is healthy enough to play.

Kasper with Ras and Raymond to start
DeBrincat fighting Andrew Peeke, a much larger guy, and did a good job. Cat had his head boarded into the dasher by Peeke, which should’ve been a call

Giving the people what they want, Neu! 15 would’ve been psyched to be at this game
