I guess

But I’m mostly quite confused

Looks like some teams weren’t aware the season started last night

Look, I mean I get the history but...Alexei Ca$hin wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 11:55 am Signing a goalie before he's ever played a game for them is a very Ottawa thing to do
Teams sign players before they play a game for them all the time? It's a pretty normal thing.
Except instead of signing a reclamation project or a historically bad goalie it's a vezina winner with a career .919 (half of which was while playing on very bad Sabres teams)

To be fair, I don’t like the practice even when the player has a great track record. You never know how someone is going to fit.

Eh, After the last zillion years without any competent goaltending at all, I'll take it. They did have all summer and training camp and obviously did get a sense it was a good fit?
He was real good tonight.

Heh. Not saying "see, it was a great move!" cause of one game. Was more like "hey, that was nice"
I'm optimistic that the deal will be good for them. I do get the sense that there's a legitimate sense of urgency to instil stability and veteran leadership to both support and prevent the young core (esp Brady) from wanting out. Ullmark is, at work, a consistent and steady veteran goalie who's had success on good and bad teams. Th
The only question mark worth actually groaning about is maybe workload, he's never started 60 games which they are 100% gonna need him to at last come close to doing if they wanna make the playoffs.

Anyway, thoughts on last night:
Validating the D-depth concerns, there was a stretch in the 3rd where Hamonic and Kleven got stuck on the ice for like 2 minutes, all of it spent 100% in their own zone and hanging on for their lives. I suspect that will not be uncommon.
Pinto/Cousins/Perron was their best line
Sanderson played 24 minutes and Chabot played under 20, a good sign from the new coaching staff

Florida's forecheck is still relentless, SNES couldn't cleanly breakout the entire game.
I wasn't making fun - Ullmark was amazing and the only reason they were in that game.
I'm looking forward to (hopefully) watching more than a handful of SNES games this season before giving up on them.

Chicago was a minute away from shutting out the JERTS, so they lost in OT

Is this just a new bit of theirs? Like every year they start out like shit, get the coach fired, and then figure it out?
Also didn't realize that Honzek made the Flames

Stolarz looks great, it's hard to imagine there will be an issues with goaltending this season for the Leafs
