It could still be Leafs-Habs if that helps

because I think the chances are pretty decent of like a league-wide shutdown within a month or two based on civil unrest and/or the closure of the US/Canada border and or a critical shortage of skates/sticks/isotopes or whatever tf they need for MRIs I have never been more bullish on a Leafs postseason. I think these are the circumstances in which they can win a few rounds (where non-hockey events conspire to force an abrupt end to the season and no cup awarded)

I totally disagree

Trump will award the Cup to whichever (American) team pays him the most

See the other critic dimension to this thesis is that the Leafs have so many important yanks on the team. It's too obvious what's about to happen (two series wins, sweeps actually, followed by some force majeure

Thinking on it further:

- Montreal can clinch tonight
- SNES are resting at least Brady and should probably rest anyone else who is not 100% (Nick Jensen for sure)
- It's a regular season game in Ottawa, so the crowd will be at least 50% Habs fans (fml) and they are going to be FIRED UP

Gotta think this is an iron clad Habs W. If Demidov plays (not expected to until next week) that would be an extra level.

Speaking of fantasies, I’ve resorted to dreaming of the Wings falling into a top-ten pick (which is decently likely) and then winning the lottery (LOL, also LMAO). This led me to the worst case scenario, which is that the Flames pick that the Habs own moves up, but not to first (in which case the Flames would keep it).

Whichever is the scenario that most benefits the Habs is what will happen, I have noted from reality.

I feel like Ottawa resting guys and Montreal passing them in the standings is a very likely outcome.

It's all garbage time now with no spots left to clinch.

but the only reason they don't win is because of the degree to which we are all doomed in the near near short term. so who is really the cynic here?

The fans are so annoying. What troubles me most is that Hughes + Gorton seem to be really good. Drafting guys outside the top 10 that turn out to be great players is obviously partly luck but, still, hard to argue against the track record. And their pro roster construction + asset management so far looks great. They have a lot coming too with Demidov, Hage, Fowler, etc...

Aren't the top left and bottom right corners mislabeled on that?
