Signing Trent Frederic to ELC

If that is still allowed - do draft rights expire? He is still under UFA age.

i mean technically because he was not signed upon crossing 120 GP he would be part of the free agent pool

i don't care much in this specific instance - can probably get him cheaper as a UFA anyways - but I'm fairly sure there have been past instances where prospects have gone above the games threshold and been sniped by other teams signing them to ELCs without the original owner having a chance to outbid (as they would if the prospect was treated as a UFA)

I think that could be elucidated in the rules a bit more. Like from 120 to 140 games played, drafted prospects can still be signed (by anyone) to ELCs, but after that they're free agents. Given that I've sniped and been sniped (Burmistrov, my first ever pick), I recognize the benefit of keeping an eye on games played, but at some point they need a definite path to the FA pool.

I would prefer we just did something like:
-After 120 games (60 for G), he can be sniped
-If he's unsigned and unsniped at the end of the regular season, player enters UFA pool.

Basically, if nobody cares enough to do it in the season, they flow to UFA status. The only reason I don't like the 140 GP thing is if a player finishes the season at 125 GP and then has this semi-murky status through the offseason when UFA status is most important

And yes to me Frederic is a $1-$2 guy so it's probably better to get him during the auction, you can sign him to a longer deal if you a Believer

That's fair

I was thinking about doing something extremely dumb / time-consuming, which obviously will depend on how much time I have to consume: go through the list of drafted prospects and list how many NHL games they've played to date and whether they've been signed to an ELC.

Speaking of claiming prospects who have surpassed 120 GP, the Lindy Ruffryders will poach Kirill Marchenko from Fletcher Got Fingered and sign him to an ELC
