Can't help but think about the Wings' two losses to the Habs before Lalonde got canned -- if Detroit had won those games and, uh, still fired their coach and went on this run, they'd have 46 points and be ahead of Boston. Montreal would have 39 and be two up on Buffalo.

Boston has lost six in a row, that could be another opening at least.

Merilainen looking better and better - hope he can run with it while Ullmark recovers. Not a full-time starter or anything but he at least doesn't have random holes pucks go through (almost) every game like Forsberg/Sogaard

It seems like every team in the wildcard race in the East is playing well at the same time too. Except for Boston and maybe Pitts.
