At least these games are reliably entertaining. Obviously hometown hero hockey boys the apple of every cop's eye are difficult to sympathise with but it's fairly outrageous to charge poor downtrodden trudeau-bankrupted patriots multiple thousands of dollars to watch players who barely get paid, and it gets terribly ugly when they start to rain boos on them

Safe bet
Nothing against MBN but I still wish Yzerman had traded up for Buium. Wings keep getting the lesser brother.

There was a discussion about Lane Hutson's next contract on HFBoards that was basically "Lock him up at 7.5 to 8 for 8 years" with some people saying you'd need to go higher. Granted, I am A Hater, but I wouldn't give him that much money/term until it's clear he's not a defensive liability.

I'll be honest: the Wings getting Ottawa on the ninth game of a road trip is a best-case scenario.
No doubt! I think that's a likely L (although, also no offense tho I'm sure you "get it", it's probably one of the two most winnable games on the trip). Hopefully they can manage to keep the whole thing from being a disaster. I think 3-5-1 or 3-4-2 would actually be a pretty good result (sadly)
I also agree Calgary's not a pushover I'm just comparing it to the rest of the games!
Well, we're here.
Currently 4-4 which is pretty bad considering how it started but about right considering the Ullmark injury and flu situation. Merilainen is the only competent option to play goal and I have to assume he'll be in tonight.
Forsberg has been terrible since his double-knee injury and I imagine his career is just about over. Sogaard, if he's going to be any good, will need a few years in the AHL (or elsewhere) to figure out his body. He's so big but somehow managed to move himself out of the way of shots.
JBD, who's been surprisingly solid on the 4th pair with Kleven, looks to have seriously injured his leg yesterday in practice.
On the good news front, Hamonic is also injured!
Called up Matinpalo and Guenette to fill in.

I'm a hater but... he looks really good. Good enough offensively that you deal with some bad defense.

I guess the question is whether he ends up at Gostisbehere levels defensively (i.e., gotta shelter him) or comes closer to Quinn Hughes

A .30 dropoff from Ullmark to the other goalies who've suited up is rough.
It's a huge game for the Wings. Win and they're a point back of [deep groan] Montreal, lose and they're four back of Ottawa while having played an extra game.

Ottawa was terrible against Dallas and St Louis, I think they'll likely come out hard tonight (esp after 4 days off + guys like Stutzle having had time to recover from illness) but... yeah, huge game for the wings + they are playing a lot better.
Before the trip started, I originally predicted a SNES OT loss and that feels like it would be pretty good at this point.
Not that it matters much - if Ullmark is out a long time (and at this point it's just week-to-week with no skating) they basically have to make a G trade to have any hope of staying it in it. And who's even available that they can afford to pay for?
