Re: 2023-2024 Offseason Thread: Only New Coaches
Pronman listed each team's biggest need in a "Lord, we need draft content every day" piece on The Athletic and goaltending (depth) came up for a lot of them. I wasted some time arguing with Beej and Caps fans about that, like no, Columbus won't take a goalie at 4, he's just looking at their prospect pool and finding the biggest area of need.

Just saw that
A way better deal than anticipated for the SNES
That said I’m not 100% sold on Ullmark being The Guy outside of the Boston defensive system

Ditching Korpisalo, even with retention, is huge

I mean, yeah, he definitely won't be winning a Vezina with Ottawa next year.
But... they just need a competent goalie and dude has a career .918 save pct which includes several seasons on a very bad Buffalo team. To get that goalie in a trade that included getting rid of Korpisalo was, frankly, not really something I had considered possible.
Kastelic will prob be fine on Boston. Even imagine Korpisalo will have a bounce back on a much better defensive team as a backup.

His stats on Buffalo were better than I remembered
The bigger question is whether they’ll be able to extend him. That would be less of a concern if they were loading up for a Cup run, but they’ll be in the hunt for the wild card spots.

If Korpisalo has a better year than Ullmark next season people will lose their minds

4 years of Korpisalo on the books for $1M is at least much better than what the buyout would have been. I can't believe they got rid of that contract.

Bobby Mac's list is up https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/bob-mckenzie-s-f ... -1.2139912
Demidov at 2 over Levshunov, Silayev then Lindstom in the top five. The other D are ranked Dickinson, Buium, Parekh, Yakemchuk. Helenius is at 9, higher than I expected. Trevor Connelly disconcertingly at #15, right after Cole Eiserman. MBN at #17. Solberg #20, Hage down at 24. He has Lukas Fischer (Jiri's son) in the third round as opposed to the second.
