2nd rounder for Nyqvist seems kind of dreamy at this point

I don't mind trading all our remaining picks and prospects at the deadline but I wish there were some players I liked available

When you add up the money over league minimum that the leafs paid Kampf, Reaves, Liljegren, Domi, Dewer it's like yeah I'd prefer to give an insane FA contract to Chandler Stephenson or Jake Debrusk over those guys

Maybe the oil will trade us one of their FA flops? Arvidsson? That where I'd be looking anyway (on my Instagram suggested posts page, which is filled with content like, top 20 worst current NHL contracts)

Marchand on Leafs?

I'm all in on the SNES somehow (impossibly) trading for him or Boeser or something

My favorite thing on Instagram suggested posts are the "Guess who this player is" with a silhouette and their prior teams. Although whenever it's some fucking nobody I feel personally attacked. That said I knew Cholowski immediately.

I don't want the Wings to trade for Boeser -- I assume it would be like Brandsegg-Nygard and a first -- but man I'd love for them to sign him in FA.

I saw a comment on the Nelson trade that mentioned this, thought it was a joke
The biggest news is that Carolina and Dallas have the framework of a trade that would send Mikko Rantanen to Texas. After the two teams agreed on the particulars, the Stars began negotiations on an extension with the winger. Getting that done — or close enough to it that Dallas is comfortable — will be critical to completing the trade.
Would be damning for Rantenen to end up at a division rival.

Trying to figure out who’d go the other way? Stankoven/Bourque? Bischel? First? Seems like Carolina would want help now.

Seems like the package was agreed upon but Rantenen hasn’t agreed to an extension with Dallas so no trade (yet)

Kinda can't blame Rantanen here - it really looks like he was expecting/wanted to (eventually) sign in Colorado so at this point it's kind of a lot for him to just sign an extension in a new place. Maybe he will but the hesitation makes a lot of sense especially since his options are likely increased in the offseason vs who can make a trade happen.

If I personally was expecting to be spending my 30s making $12M+ a year in Denver, then the prospect of doing so in Raleigh or Dallas would really feel like a big step down.

He’s earned his right to test free agency. I suspect he’d make more money if he got there than whatever he’d take from Dallas or Carolina (8 years, 12.5-13 per). He’d only be able to sign for seven years but he’d be able to choose his spot (Detroit, on a sweetheart deal).

I do wonder how much he’s hurt his stock with his performance in Carolina. Not helping the “product of MacKinnon” talk.

I was amused by how unanimous the NHL agent sentiment was against Carolina’s Dundon. No one wants a shitty boss!

Rakell is also someone I think could move the needle a bit for the SNES? Feels unlikely they can make a big move and I'm not sure how of a difference much some bottom six guy will make for a team that is lacking real goal scoring weapons.

Rakell seems like he’d be a good fit, although I’m wary of trading for a guy having his best year since 2017-2018. Doesn’t seem guaranteed that he’ll continue producing at that clip. I also saw some ridiculous expected returns on him from PNES fans (Brandt Clarke and a first from the Kings? GTFO).

I think I am more interested in the possibility of trading shitty leafs for mid round picks than I am in the remaining names on the TSN trade board TM

I would also trade a failed Dubas era prospect to Dubas in exchange for Luke Schenn

when he admitted culpability after beheading Darnell Nurse on his way off the ice, tapping his chest as if to say, "my bad". class act all around.

bleakest memory is probably when he was arguably our best forward vs Boston in game 1 last year
