All fair! I guess the argument would be: why not wait until closer to the deadline, which I've seen.
Probably a case of He only would waive to go to FLA/TB and Florida wanted to do it now or would move on?

I'll look at it this way: it's likely that Tarasenko would only sign a one-year deal with Ottawa if it came with a NTC, so while the optics of only getting a 3rd and 4th in return are bad, the other option is sign a worse playersutterfamily wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2024 1:22 pm Reading twitter just now, that seems to be the consensus.
And, fair enough. Still, as far as first moves go this is pretty underwhelming for this management group.

Dumping RyJo in the Walker trade was smart. A future first is fine for that
Byram for Mittelstadt is interesting. They definitely needed a 2C, Byram has a high ceiling but is too injury prone. Mittelstadt has been great the last two years.
I hope neither of those guys is available for them tonight against the Wings!

The Sabres have a bunch of Not Huge forward prospects (Kulich seems ready, Savoie’s probably a year off) who presumably can fill in for Mittelstadt. They didn’t have a defensive prospect on Byram’s level. But again, he has to stay healthy.

Sabres are trying the Oops! All LHD approach
Re: The Official 2023-2024 NHL Season Thread: Now with fewer posts
Adam Henrique is a fine addition but Sam fucking Carrick? What are we doing here? This guy cannot play hockey
Re: The Official 2023-2024 NHL Season Thread: Now with fewer posts
I love the Byram/Mittelstadt deal for both teams but hate that Vancouver, Vegas, Dallas and Colorado all appear to be loading up and the best we can do is Adam Henrique and inevitably Joel Edmundson on Friday

Same energy as that news.
Him?!

2.7 but that’s still way too much

Re: The Official 2023-2024 NHL Season Thread: Now with fewer posts
He was the only defenseman in the deadline pool that interested me as a Wings fan -- a long-term upgrade (if they could extend him, and reports are that he was only willing to do that with a few teams [probably not Detroit]) at LHD -- and I assumed that he'd end up in Boston somehow.
Friday's going to be crickets, but I'm seeing Dune 2 at 11am so I'd miss most of the Twitter fun anyway.

God I can’t stand them. I know they just throw caution to the wind, outsmart other GMs and just are smart about taking advantage of the NHL and hope poorly it’s run but it’s still annoying.
